Lipofilling - is a cosmetic procedure that involves the removal of a certain amount of fat from one area of the body, followed by transplantation into another area that requires correction. Thus, the «filler» is a substance naturally produced by one's own body.
Who is recommended for lipofilling?
The lipofilling procedure is in demand by women in order to give volume and improve the appearance of the buttocks, calves, chest and face. Lipofilling gives excellent results for the correction of age-related changes, as well as with excessive weight loss. In addition to achieving aesthetic goals, lipofilling can be recommended for quick wound healing.
Recent scientific studies have shown that adipose tissue is a valuable source of stem cells. Based on these data, modern methods of tissue engineering have discovered new ways for using lipofilling. For example, the procedure is shown in the following cases:
- correction of post-traumatic and surgical defects;
- healing of pressure sores;
- tissue repair after burns;
- correction of tissue fibrosis;
- scarring area filling.
A prerequisite for the patient is a preoperative examination. You must tell your doctor about all your previous illnesses (even minor ones), it is also important to provide information about the medicines used.
The procedure for lipofilling
The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia. In most cases, fat is removed from areas such as the hips, abdomen, buttocks.
Before proceeding with lipofilling, it is necessary to centrifuge the fat for several minutes at 3000 rpm. The idea of centrifugation is to cleanse blood and fluid from fat. You need to know that only centrifugation ensures that fat is suitable for lipofilling.
Next, the filler (adipose tissue) is implanted in the desired area using a thin hollow needle.
What to expect after the procedure?
After a course of lipofilling, a certain physical discomfort may be observed, caused by soreness and swelling of the areas where the fat was taken and implanted. The formation of small hematomas and small bruises within a few days after the intervention is considered the norm. In some patients, a slight increase in temperature is possible for 2-3 days.
Possible side effects of lipofilling
Among other side effects of the procedure possible are:
- hyperpigmentation of the skin in the treated areas (do not expose to sun exposure for 4 months after lipofilling);
- allergic reactions;
- swelling of the treated areas;
- general malaise.
The full result of lipofilling can be observed only 8-12 weeks after surgery. The following lipofilling procedure is allowed only 6 months after the previous one.
