Among the possible causes of female infertility endometriosis is not the last place. The disease was first mentioned in Egyptian papyrus. The increase in the incidence rate in the last decade is progressing, and endometriosis has been attributed to the so-called «diseases of civilization». In fact, one in five women of reproductive age in Europe is familiar with this disease.
It is believed that a hormonal imbalance, a genetic predisposition, poor heredity, and high intellectual activity and associated physical inactivity can serve as a favorable factor in the development of endometriosis. There are many theories of the onset of the disease, but the true causes of the disease are still not fully understood.
The leading modern hypothesis is still a genetic predisposition. If there is evidence in the family history that a grandmother, aunt, or sister was ill with endometriosis, then you are also more likely to encounter the aforementioned disease. Endometriosis is a disease characterized by proliferation of cells of the lining of the uterus. In this case, the growth of the endometrium can reach the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder, intestines, less often - the lungs and brain.
Symptoms of endometriosis
The first signs of the disease make themselves felt with pelvic pain and cramping during menstruation, expressed by the severity of the lower abdomen. But endometriosis can also be asymptomatic. It is often confused with ectopic pregnancy, ovarian cysts and even cancer.
The final diagnosis allows laparoscopic examination. Thanks to laparoscopy, the presence of ectopic endometrial growths is determined.
How to treat endometriosis
The most modern and effective treatment is surgical (laparoscopic) intervention. The purpose of the operation is to remove foci of endometriosis. This method has been successfully applied at the Bogoliuby Reproductive Medical Center. As a result of laparoscopy, pain is significantly reduced, reproductive function is restored. Hormone therapy is also used. Positive results of treatment depend on how long the process is and the degree of spread of foci of the disease.
